Bruce Lives…

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

For those of you who don’t know, there’s been a tiresome battle over naming our mascott the Yowie for quite some time now.  So tiresome infact that we had to do an official online voting ballot to put the issue to rest.  Of the 15+ names submitted one name came out on top…BRUCE.  You’ll see Bruce from time to time in our videos and at action sports events on the west coast.   Bruce will also be with us when we head out on the road to spots like Colorado, Utah, and any other hotspots in the nation.  If you see Bruce give him some love.  Thanks to all who participated.

To be honest I wasn’t sure about the name Bruce at first, but ya know… he looks like a Bruce!

Zumies Couch Tour 2009

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Just found out about this skate tour, looks pretty sick.  But why is LA not on the roster?

“Starting in 2000, the Zumiez Couch tour has grown from four stops to twelve, stopping in major markets across the US.  This 9th year of the tour will hit up 12 locations, kicking the tour off in Seattle where Zumiez began in 1978.

The Zumiez Couch Tour partners with the best brands in the industry to bring pro skate demos, autograph signings and an onsite experience the customer will never forget.  The free event is all about giving back to our customers…  It is filled with live performances by top bands, an interactive festival with a ton of free giveaways, and is never too far from the Zumiez shop.

In 2007, Zumiez kicked off the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Am Contest.  The BFF not only highlights amateur skateboarding in a jam-style competition on a national level, but also gives the spotlight to local up-and-comers everywhere.  This year, the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Am Contest is presented by Monster Energy.”

Arniko Handmade Skateboard Decks

arniko-1

Nepal seems like an unlikely source for skateboards inspired by the ’70s surfing scene, but Arniko Skateboards shines a light on the Himalayan country’s long-standing identity as region rich with traditional woodcarvers—an ideal production site for the socially-responsible brand with a global consumer base.

Founded two years ago by Nepalese-born Marius Arniko Arter, Arniko Skateboards is a Swiss company that works with small local enterprises to employ talented Nepalese woodcarvers. The company, which boasts the same name as a major highway in Nepal, strives to bring better working opportunities and conditions to one of the world’s poorest countries, while at the same time promoting the craftsmanship of citizens.

Find Action Sports Events!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

I just stumbled upon a great tool for getting info on events in the action sports world, ZexSports lets you search by sport & location to find out what’s happening in your area.

*The site is still in Beta mode so the interface is a little choppy, and it could offer a little more info but it definitely has potential to be a very powerful tool.

What’s coming up in LA you ask?

Red Bull X-Fighters Calgary 2009

Red Bull X-Fighters Calgary

Red Bull X-Fighters Calgary

“As many expected, this weekends Red Bull X-Fighters was a showdown. Robbie Maddison lit up the famous rodeo arena of Stampede Park to take the win. Nate Adams gave Maddison a run after he threw down his signature 360. But it Robbie Madd pulled out all the stops to make sure he was standing on the middle of the podium. “I had a feeling from the start that I had a chance to win today and after winning the quarter-final against Nate Adams I knew I could go all the way”, Maddison told Red Bull.

So check out these photos from this weekend. Because it doesn’t matter if you are seasoned moto-bro or you have never twisted a throttle one thing stays the same, the photos are always rad.”
